Thirteen years ago, I first stepped my foot on a yoga mat, and it changed my life forever. It was in a small studio in Houston, Texas that could only hold a capacity of 15 students. The room was warm and inviting although I had no idea of what to expect, considering that It was my first invitation extended to me by my sister. In that exact moment I seemed to be surrounded by advanced yogis. The instructor then led an intense Vinyasa practice that I ended up following on occasion before my departure to New York. I had previous experience with sports and fitness due to growing up in a very active environment, but yoga was something much more. It was a way that I could connect spirituality with physical health. Reminiscing back to the prime of my journey working in downtown Brooklyn at a local gym just focusing on personal training and building muscle with only an aim to improve my physical appearance. Internally I felt that I had the missing piece of spirituality deeply rooted between liberation and a slumber. Not long into training clients along with myself, I suffered from severer joint pain and a torn ACL that prohibited me to move freely for an extended period due to excessive lifting. I had thought that depression and stress would be my main headline until I finished physical therapy, and began yoga, and meditation once again. I realized how much it changed me for the good! My dream was to one day be able to lead my practices amongst people who were seeking a change, or who have experienced situations such as I had, and wanted knowledge of how to connect the mind to the body and soul. With this desire building and manifesting inside me soon blossomed into me achieving my RYT 500hrs Yoga Alliance Certification then setting out to share my knowledge. Though I thought it would be easy, I faced many obstacles along the way such as relocation, disconnecting and inconsistency within my practices, but as a constant reminder I allowed this to replay itself in my mind such as a mantra “ To bravely walk through the fire, you must understand how it feels to burn, and let it be your fuel”, and so it stuck, and I followed! So as a result, my journey has brought me here, and I’m fortunate enough to be able to guide and inspire!
